Santa's coming!!

'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring not even a....

Santa is busy with last minute jobs in his workshop.

(I couldn't resist showing you this curious little creature, found along with the mouse in Plymouth museum.)

I've never seen such a strange little creature!
Wishing all my readers and followers a very

Gingerbread house.

As promised, here's a picture of my daughters Gingerbread House, inspired by Clare Youngs 'Folk Art Needlecraft' book.

She's really pleased with it and is already starting another one!

I love the way she did the candy cane front door (whipped back stitch).

She inspired me to try myself, so I've started one from the book but using red and white-love those colours this time of the year.
It may be finished for next year.

I hope you don't have problems with this stormy weather. I spent the morning dragging our fence panels out of our neighbours garden. Then trying to dog proof the gaps, not what I had in mind when I woke up this morning!

Still someone was happy!

Gingerbread House and Tinsel.

Following on from Clare Youngs book of needlecraft, Eleanor has tried stitching her own design from her story onto fabric.

She drew her little gingerbread house on with pencil.

Then used simple backstitch.

She tried a few other stitches, and decided that the whipped backstitch would make a good candy cane, so she is now trying it out. I'll post the finished article soon.
Also I thought I'd show you a little Christmas scene, showing a new family member Tinsel and the puppy safe front room.

Shhhhh, she may look sweet but she's full of mischief, and I really have to get on with some Christmas shopping!

Byeee for now.

Folk Art Needlecraft.

I visited our local library yesterday, and found a lovely embroidery book by Clare Youngs.

I've had lots of ideas from it, and hopefully will share any projects with you soon!
The simple linear shapes and patterns reminded me of a lovely picture from soulemama

This one is being sewn by her daughter.
This in turn inspired an idea for my own daughter to try the simple embroidery, as she draws mostly linear pictures. She has been working on some 'story maps' to prompt some creative writing.

I hope to have time to teach her some basic stitches to stitch some ideas from this work.
I will show you soon!
We are hopefully going to get some decorations down this weekend. I hope it's only some! I say every year that we will thin them out, but it never happens! We shall see...

Mr D'Arcy, and Christmas Collages.

A few posts in a few days, I may have to sit down...Oh I already am.
Eleanor and I were looking at the traditions of Christmas, and finished the day making some collages.
I only noticed the letters - bought for the stamps- said to Mr D'Arcy when I cropped them, so much for concentrating on my work!

A little wonky donkey Christmas Brooch.
Anyone else with no decorations up yet?

Liskeard Lights up.

Today feels a bit like a 'Bah Humbug' day.
We had a lovely 'lights up Liskeard' day yesterday but it has all gone a bit quiet today.
So many decorations and christmas shopping going on, but I'm not doing any of it!
Oh well here's a little piccy of decor that has been out all year!

I'm sure I'll feel like doing more decor things soon.
I've been concentrating on keeping warm, looking at recycling some of my old clothing for some new looks. Pinterest is brill for getting ideas together. I love all the cosy warm mittens and scarves.
Going back to 'lights up Liskeard', here are a few pictures of the lantern that Eleanor and I made, and the parade.

Willow and masking tape!

Cover in tissue.

Light it up!

It was really busy, and a great community turn out.
My photos don't do it justice as there were loads of lovely lanterns, but I couldn't leave Eleanor to go through the crowds. Hopefully some of you will see it one day, on a trip to Cornwall.

Byeee for now.

Thrifty Finds.

A quick post with a few finds and listings on ebay.
In a comment I left for Victoria at Anglesey Allsorts I told her about a find from a jumble sale.
I thought I'd post a little piccy of it.
I bought a truly filthy patchwork quilt, and chanced that I (We) could get it clean.
I'm definately not afraid of a bit of dirt and so I paid 20p ( the lady suggested this tentatively just in case I didn't take it away) She folded it neatly trying not to touch it.
It had a wash in the washing machine and then I set my hubby on it with huge amounts of elbow grease and voila! it came up very clean (the end is folded in because we it was a picture for selling the bed- not because it's still dirty!)
It was just in time for the cold weather.
Below are a couple of things I've put onto ebay.
Some lovely linen/acrylic mix yarns.
The last two pirate bunny brooches.

Some very unusual horsey buttons x 4.

Just to end on. My son is doing an enterprise scheme at school and has been sewing all by himself some cute little phone cases. Part of the money goes to a dog charity and the other is shared between the group.

I think they look very professional!

Vintage finds and other things.

I woke up this morning to some bonus sunshine, that threw some lovely shadows around the room.

The other day I had a sort out of a few pens and pencils (to say the least!)

I also had a go at marrow and ginger jam (no frills presentation!)
As I forgot  to add anything with pectin in, it turned out like a puree, my daughter called it marrow and ginger honey which I thought was a very forgiving name.
It was actually very tasty, and a lovely colour.

For anyone who's interested I am regularly listing on ebay
A few items below are shown from what is on there now.
I also sell some end of stock items if anyone is after stocking fillers.
I hate the amount of postage I have to charge, but do hope that people think of buying more than one thing so it cuts the postage down.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!
