Charlestown and cakes.

We had a very chilly trip to Charlestown recently, which was full of old charm.
It seemed like time had stood still.
I will definitely go back in warmer weather.

Shame about the bag!

There were several really pretty houses. I love the little storm porch and the once tended front garden.

There's only one thing to do in the cold weather, and that is to bake.
A classic lemon drizzle, and two walnut and coffee cakes.

Both recipes were from 'The complete farmhouse kitchen cookbook'
From the Yorkshire T.V. series (made in the 70's?)

The programmes were designed to revive interest in homebaking and preservation.
I can't wait to try out more recipes
Time for an extra slice I think!

    1. I love seeing your cooking, all made from scratch.
I tried the rock cake recipe today, which went down well- and rather quickly!

    1. Both my children had been there on school trips, but we'd never been.So it was an unexpected pleasure to see what seems like an unspoilt place. Sadly you can't get near the boats because the whole area is privately owned.

  4. I am so very happy to have found your blog! If you could see me, I'm the fat lady doing the happy dance:) Love your local photos, love all of your sewing projects, they are so charming, and that shed project you have going on is amazing. There is nothing that I have seen on your site that I haven't just been in a state of admiration over. Even your cakes look wonderful. Is there anything that you don't do and do well?
Speaking of cakes. I have just discovered The Great British Baking Show. Have you seen it? I do not know if it is a new show or a new season, I'm just delighted that I found it. I want to follow your blog, but do not see a place to follow so I'm adding you to my blog-list. Have a stupendous day and please come visit.

    1. What a lovely comment Connie, I'd love to bottle your enthusiasm!
I try to do my best, but I assure you there are many things I don't do well, I just don't put them on my blog!
The baking show has quite a few episodes, I'm sure they may be on line?
You have reminded me about my follower bit on my sidebar, as in an attempt to change my background I must have deleted it!
Hope you have a great day, Felicityx

    1. Lovely to see you online. I guess it must be dry! I have tried quite a few cakes from the book now, including the yorkshire parkin, and all the cakes I have made have been the best yet! Good luck in finding it.
